Everyone wants to lose weight, but nobody wants to put in the time and effort to do it. Namely, they don’t want to exercise.
There are many reasons people in this day and age don’t want to go out of their way to exercise. The first reason is because they don’t have time. It’s such a precious commodity these days, that by the time people get home from work they have to clean, cook, and somehow unwind with a book or in front of the TV. Where can they squeeze in some exercise?
The other reason is because many people don’t find exercising fun at all. It’s gruelling, especially in the beginning days when you discover just how out of shape you are. Lots of the more fun exercises require equipment or classes that you have to pay money for. Besides, you know what happened the last time you made a New Year’s resolution to hit the gym? We bet your membership lapsed without a single trip.
This is why so many people wonder if it’s possible to lose weight without exercise. It’s a common question, but one that doesn’t have a good, solid answer – which nobody wants to hear. Is it technically possible? Yes.
Weight loss, assuming you do not have any disorders or diseases that prevent otherwise, is often as simple as burning more calories than you consume. For example, if you normally eat and burn 2000 calories a day, you are maintaining your current weight. If you burn 2000 a day and eat 2500, you will gain weight. Therefore, if you want to lose weight, you need to eat fewer calories than you are putting into your body.
Sounds simple, right? For many, it really is that simple. They draw up a list of the foods they’re eating, including the calories, sodium, sugar, etc. From there they take a look at what they can eliminate and replace with healthier foods.
The reason doctors and fitness experts tell you to exercise is because it speeds up the process of losing weight and help you become healthier in a shorter amount of time. Exercising is good for you. Nobody can really argue that. But if you’re interested in losing weight without exercising – for whatever reason – then you’ll be happy to know that it’s not completely necessary.
Simply understand that it will take longer to lose weight through diet alone. It’s possible, but depending on what kind of dietary changes you’re making, it could take months, even years more to see the results you want. This is why we highly recommend that you talk to your doctor about your options. He or she will be able to tell you what your odds are. They may also be able to help you figure out where you can add more exercise to your life.
Is it possible to lose weight without exercise? Sure. But the process will be longer and perhaps harder to complete. Yet there is nothing wrong with focusing on a diet now and exercise later.
